He is not a human being

Candanacarya: One time you said that Krsna consciousness is not difficult, but to remain determined, that is difficult. Determination is difficult.

Prabhupada: That determination comes by tapasya. Therefore we have got rules and regulation. If you follow the rules and regulation, then you will be determined. Otherwise, you will be victim of maya. The rules and regulation is there just to keep you fixed up in your determination. But if you don't follow, then you fall down. Just like physician says, "You don't take this along with medicine. You take this." That is rules and regulation. If you follow, then you do not become victim of disease again. If you don't follow, then you... What the physician will do?

Candanacarya: But it also requires determination to follow the tapasya.

Prabhupada: Then if he cannot, then he is cat and dog. He is not a human being. Why he should accept initiation? Let him remain a cat and dog. He promises to follow, and if he cannot follow, then he is nothing but cat and dog. In the court, they take promises, that "In the name of God," "In the name of Bible." So that means he will speak the truth. Similarly, before the fire, before Deity, before guru, before devotees, he is promising something, and if he does not follow, then he is cat and dog. He cannot advance. It is not possible. That is the distinction between cat and dog and human being. Cat and dog, they cannot promise. It is not possible. But a human being can promise. And if he keeps his promise, then he is human being. Otherwise cat and dog. Word of honor. The cats and dogs, they have no sense of honor. Either you kick him or pat, he does not know what is the difference. That is cat and dog. He does not know the distinction. A human being knows what is promise, what is word of honor.

'Helping students through meditation' Times Of India article

JAIPUR: Around 200 students, mostly with an engineering background have joined Hare Krishna Community at Sitapura in Jaipur, propagating the principles of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). So before they begin to attend classes on material science and conduct tests in laboratories to solve complex engineering puzzles, they prefer to start their day by meditating or chanting Hare Rama Hare Krishna.

Here students claim to have achieved multi-fold objectives; de-stressing themselves, seeking spiritual solace and become more focussed and a more healthy life due to organic food. Dayalu Nitai Das, an engineer in chemical branch from IIT-Kanpur who is the president of Hare Krishna Centre, Jaipur, has been training students on meditation and other spiritual activities since 2002.

"These devotees (students) are highly intelligent individuals who come to us after they are totally convinced by our philosophy. Here they follow a very tough lifestyle. Their day starts at 4 am to attend the 'arti' followed by chanting which improves their focus. Then they spend an hour in the 'goshala' (cow shed) washing and feeding the cows which makes them compassionate and kind towards living beings," said Das.

They also run special training programmes to curb suicidal tendencies among the students. Sitapura area has 30 engineering and 25 management colleges. Engineering students come under highly vulnerable group for suicides or suffer from hypertension due to academic pressure.

The community was set up for spreading the teachings but recently it realized the need to address student-centric problems. They began organizing seminars in engineering colleges and received an overwhelming response from the students who started attending meditation.

The community formed two hostels on the temple campus for those students who volunteered to live the tough lifestyle of a devotee. Deepanshu, a meritorious student from JECRC said, "My life has changed since I joined here. I have learnt how to attain deep focus which has sharpened my grasping power. Now I am able to complete college assignments almost in half time as compared to before."

"Good Morning means ?"

Prabhupada: "...morning," what is the meaning?

Sudama: Well, it's just actually become an expression of greeting. Literally, of course, it means that "I am pleased to see you, happy to meet you. Good morning."

Prabhupada: Anyone else?

Satsvarupa: In English when we say, "Goodbye," that means "God be with you." Some God consciousness.

Pradyumna: They say, "Good morning. Good morning to you."

Bali-mardana: Like one pig grunting at another pig.

Prabhupada: "Good morning" means... Because it is English word... In England every morning is bad morning, because it is cloud. When they see one day that cloud is clear, they say, "Good morning." (japa) [break] ...similarly, a good soul means when there is no maya, then he's good soul.

Bali-mardana: Or cloud.

Prabhupada: Huh? Cloud. maya is cloud. So what is that cloud?

Sudama: Forgetfulness of Krsna.

Prabhupada: That cloud is when a soul desires to become the master. That is cloud.

Depend on your purified preaching

Satsvarupa:
But should this be forced on people if they don't want it?

Prabhupada: Huh?

Satsvarupa: If a large section of the people don't want spiritual life, that's their...

Prabhupada: No, you cannot force. That is not possible, because he has got independence. You cannot force. You can simply give him knowledge. Therefore to distribute knowledge is the best welfare activities, not this material so-called happiness, daridra-narayana-seva and this... They have got that. That will not make them happy. If you give them knowledge, then they will be really benefited. Otherwise not.

Brahmananda: How do we give knowledge to the common masses of people?

Prabhupada: Yes, by sankirtana. By hearing, hearing, hearing -- this is a medicinal process -- the heart will be cleansed and they will take up the knowledge. Now the heart is unclean, so he cannot take up. So this is the medicine. Kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha. Harer nama harer... [Cc. Adi 17.21]. Chant Hare Krsna mantra wherever possible, and whoever will hear, he will gradually become cleansed. Ceto-darpana-marjanam [Cc. Antya 20.12]. And then bhava-maha-davagni... Then his material pangs will be over. This is the only medicine. Therefore chant Hare Krsna. Some way or other, let them have the chance of hearing, and then it will act as medicine. Even he does not will, you chant, you let him hear by force, and he will be cured.

Satsvarupa: Srila Prabhupada, sometimes you say only a very small percentage can take to Krsna consciousness.

Prabhupada: Yes.

Satsvarupa: But yesterday morning in your lecture you were saying it can expand to ten thousand, million, or ten million.

Prabhupada: Yes, if you take the proper way it can be increased.

Satsvarupa: Is that just up to our preaching?

Prabhupada: Yes. That will depend on your purified preaching activities. If you again become materially victimized, then you cannot do it. If you remain on the spiritual platform, if you try, then it will increase. Anandambudhi-vardhanam. It will increase. As soon as there is any contemplation of sense gratification, then the spirit will be lost. Then instead of Christianity, it will be "Churchianity," officially going to the church, doing nothing, and gradually nobody will go.

What does it mean to be fully Krsna conscious?

What does it mean to be fully Krsna conscious?

Visala:
I remember over five years ago you telling me about, "If you read the first nine cantos of Srimad-Bhagavatam, you become fully Krsna conscious." Would you kindly tell me what does it mean to be fully Krsna conscious?
Prabhupada: What do you understand, fully Krsna conscious?

Visala: What does it mean to be fully Krsna conscious?

Prabhupada: No, what you mean, first of all let me know.

Harikesa: What do you think fully Krsna concious means? You tell Prabhupada.

Visala: It's to see Krsna face to face?

Prabhupada: That means Krsna conscious? Everyone is seeing Krsna face to face. When you go to the temple Krsna is there, and you are seeing. Does it mean everyone is Krsna conscious?

Visala: No.

Prabhupada: Then what is the meaning of Krsna conscious?

Indian man: Brahma-bhutah prasannatma na socati na kanksati [Bg. 18.54].

Prabhupada: Hm, that is part of Krsna consciousness, brahma bhutah. Real Krsna consciousness is: "Krsna    is master, I am servant." This is Krsna consciousness.

Visala: To understand that you're the servant and Krsna is the master. I see.

Prabhupada: When you fully understand, that is your Krsna... That is Krsna conscious. [break] So long you think that "I can also become like Krsna," then you are not Krsna conscious.

Visala: In other words, if you still have material desires you can't be fully Krsna conscious.

Prabhupada: Yes. That is the beginning of Krsna consciousness, anyabhilasita-sunyam [Brs. 1.1.11]. Make all your material desires zero.

Visala: Thank you very much.

Prabhupada: That is Krsna conscious. You should only desire to serve Krsna. [break] ...clear or not?

Visala: Very clear. Thank you very much.

Harikesa: What if a person doesn't desire material enjoyment, but still, there is so much dirt?

Prabhupada: Hm? Who is that person who has no material desires?

Harikesa: A person really wants to be Krsna conscious, but somehow or another, so much dirts gets in the way.

Prabhupada: Yes. Dirt means it is not yet zero. I said that all material desires should be made zero.
Anyabhilasita-sunyam [Brs. 1.1.11].

Harikesa: As soon as the desires completely change, then everything else is purified.

Prabhupada: Yes. As Arjuna said, karisye vacana tava, nasto mohah: "Now my illusion is over. I agree to act as you say." This is Krsna conscious. Nasto moha smrtir labdh tvat prasadan madhusudana. [break] The moha is there. Moha means these desires are illusion, like dreaming. In dream we see so many things. They are all false. In dreaming I am seeing that somebody is coming to kill me but there is nobody, but still, I am dreaming. This is called moha. So when one is free from moha, then he's Krsna conscious. The whole material world is going on under such illusion. Therefore it is called maya. Hare Krsna. Thank you. (end)

Is Krsna your father's servant ?

Bhargava: ... allow the Muslims to enter and do so much damage to the Vedic culture?

Prabhupada: Hm?
Bhargava: Why did Krsna allow the Muslims to enter and do so much damage to the...

Prabhupada: Krsna is your father's servant that you do something wrong and Krsna has to check it? Is your Krsna your father's servant? Then why do you ask this question? If you allow somebody to cut your head, has Krsna to come to save you? Why do you ask this nonsense question? You are Krsna conscious. Samo 'ham sarva-bhutesu. If you cut your own head, what Krsna will do? In the same term, nationalism, as Vedic culture is Krsna's national affair, your disease is there. Why Krsna will come to save the Vedic culture? What business He has got? If you are spoiling it, then why Krsna will come? Spoil, and suffer. (break) ... the same question in a different way, "Why India? Why Krsna?" as if Krsna is Indian. Krsna is Indian? Then why do you ask this question, that "Krsna will come to save India's culture?"
Bhargava: Not the Indian culture but the Vedic culture, Krsna's culture.

Prabhupada: Vedic culture, He has given, Bhagavad-gita. Why don't you accept it? You don't accept; then suffer. He has given His instruction. The government gives you the law. Now, when you violate, the government will come to stop you? You violate and suffer. Why do you expect that "When I violate the laws, the government men will come and stop me?" Why do you expect like that? Eh? The government can give you the law book. You consult and do accordingly. You'll be happy. And if you don't, against, the government man is not coming to stop you. You do and suffer. Krsna says, "Whenever there is discrepancy, I come." That is general, not for India. Vedic culture is not for India. It is for everyone.

How can a man's intelligence be rectified?

Pusta Krsna: How can a man's intelligence be rectified? If intelligence is the...

Prabhupada: This hari-kirtana, chant. Somehow or other, induce them to chant Hare Krsna. Everything all right. By flattering, by soliciting, by giving him prasada, by elevating him, that "You are the best man in the world" -- in this way inducing him, "Please chant Hare Krsna," then he will be rectified. This is Hare Krsna movement. There is no other way. He is ruined, and the more the Kali-yuga advances, he becomes more and more ruined. All other attempts will failure. Don't you see in your country the LSD-addicted hippies? Government spends so much money to rectify them-failure. But as soon as they come to our camp, immediately success. How it is possible?

Pusta Krsna: By this chanting...

Prabhupada: That is the amazement. That is the amazement of Professor Judah and all others, that "How it is happening? There is something in the Hare Krsna movement."

Pusta Krsna: This is good propaganda with the governments also. This is good way to get the governments to support our movement more and more, isn't it?

Prabhupada: The government never objected to our movement. Never. I never met any objection from government side. Neither even Christian priestly side. I never met any objection. They understand that "He is doing something."

Pusta Krsna: Only from your Godbrothers. (laughter)
